James Robinson Speciality Ingredients Launches Jarocare R25, a Red Lentil–based Active for Precision Bond Repair
Huddersfield, United Kingdom – 4 April 2025
James Robinson Speciality Ingredients (JRSI) has launched Jarocare R25, a natural bond repair solution derived from red lentil protein. Developed by the company’s Biotome division, this innovative ingredient represents a shift in how damaged hair can be repaired.
The science behind R25 centres on its distinctive solvent-free enzymatic extraction process that preserves essential amino acids – lysine, arginine, and histidine. This gentle approach stands apart from conventional harsh hydrolysis methods common in the industry, which often compromise the very elements responsible for restoration. These preserved amino acids are what effectively repair broken bonds within the hair structure.
Comprehensive testing confirms R25’s effectiveness in repairing damaged hair. Tensile strength (Dia-Stron) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry analysis reveals significant improvement in hair strength – up to 25%, surpassing the consumer gold standard in the category. Advanced fluorescent tagging techniques provide visual confirmation that R25 penetrates deep into the hair fibre, reaching areas where repair is most needed.
As a COSMOS Approved ingredient, Jarocare R25 meets the highest standards for natural and organic cosmetics, while its readily biodegradable profile ensures minimal environmental impact. These credentials, combined with its performance benefits, make R25 an ideal solution for brands committed to both efficacy and sustainability.
“Jarocare R25 represents years of research into plant protein chemistry and hair science,” said Dr. Daniel Brown, Research & Technology Manager at JRSI’s Biotome division. “Our main goal was to create something that worked and delivered performance. The breakthrough came when we developed our own enzymatic method that maintains the functional integrity of key amino acids. This precision approach not only delivers superior bond repair but aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainable chemistry.”
“Consumers are more attentive than ever to the ingredients that go into their hair care products, evaluating the naturality, sustainability and long-term impacts on our planet,” said Jennie Teague, Business Manager for Haircare at JRSI. “Jarocare R25 has been under development by our biotech team for over several years, and we are thrilled that we’re now ready to launch this to the market. As an active ingredient for hair repair, it effectively meets the demands of today’s consumers while being backed by rigorous science.”
JRSI will officially showcase Jarocare R25 at In-Cosmetics Global 2025, where formulators and brand owners can discover firsthand how this breakthrough technology can enhance their hair care portfolios.
